Concerned that your pet may be battling an underlying illness or injury? Thermal imaging can be the key to cracking the case.

Because our pets are unable to tell us when they’re feeling sick or hurt, diagnosing their ailments can be a challenge. Thanks to innovative technologies, like veterinary thermal imaging, solving these puzzles has become much easier. At Evergreen Animal Hospital, we are committed to offering our clients the most up-to-date, high-tech medicine available for their pets. To that end, we are pleased to include thermal imaging as part of our comprehensive list of services.

What is Thermal Imaging?

Veterinary thermal imaging uses infrared technology to measure the heat radiation being emitted from an animal’s body. This produces images, called thermograms, which provide visual representation of temperature differences. These fluctuations in temperature are often indicative of an injury or other illness, such as infection or inflammation. When we can visualize these areas of concern, we are better able to diagnose and treat them in a timely manner.

Benefits of Thermal Imaging

Thermal imaging is a completely non-invasive and totally painless procedure. As such, it is particularly ideal for treating health issues in nervous or anxious animals who might otherwise require sedation.

Some additional benefits of veterinary thermal imaging include:

  • Elimination of guesswork – ability to pinpoint a precise area for examination
  • Quicker and more accurate diagnoses for faster and more effective treatment plans
  • Ability to spot potential problem areas early so they can be addressed before they develop and worsen

Thermal imaging is often used in tandem with laser therapy. In these instances, the infrared images captured help our team to more precisely identify which areas of the body to focus on during a session. Ongoing thermal imaging can also help us to measure progress and visualize the results of laser treatments.
