Dr. Brett Hornback

Owner, Veterinarian

Dr. Brett Hornback grew up on a small farm in Woodford County, Kentucky, where he spent time around dogs and cats, gerbils, hamsters, and even a parakeet. As he got older, he cared for cows, horses, and a small flock of chickens. Dr. Hornback’s natural affinity with the earth’s creatures and his love of nature and the outdoors guided him to one perfect career path: veterinary medicine. He decided to devote himself to the craft and he hasn’t looked back since!

Dr. Hornback completed his pre-veterinary studies at the University of Kentucky, working at Woodford Veterinary Clinic for three years during that time to gain real-world experience. Next, he earned his Doctorate at Auburn University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 1989 before launching his career as a licensed veterinarian. Dr. Hornback worked in several general practice and small-animal emergency clinics after his schooling, gaining a vast array of knowledge and experience, and then decided to open and manage his own practice. Having performed his preceptorship in this area, Dr. Hornback founded Evergreen Animal Hospital in the spring of 1993—he’s been serving the pets and animal parents of this area ever since! He loves using the newest in-house technologies like blood chemistry analyzers, radiology, thermal imaging, and laser therapy to help his patients feel better. Nothing beats helping to ease the minds of clients by making their beloved companions healthy again.

Outside of the office, Dr. Hornback likes spending quality time with his wife and two wonderful sons. As a family, they enjoy golfing, hiking, bicycling, fishing, grilling, and cheering on their favorite sports teams. Dr. Hornback is also fond of coaching his sons’ sports teams, and he even founded the National Archery in the Schools Program at his son’s elementary school. The co-ed team would eventually qualify for state, national, and world championships three years in a row! The family has one pet at home, a 100-pound Yellow Labrador named Bleu who can never get enough attention, as well as their black cat, Cherry Ice Cream, who lives here at Evergreen Animal Hospital.
