August 10th is a pretty important day for our canine companions: it’s the official birthday of Snoopy, the beloved cartoon Beagle that has been charming us since 1950. As it turns out, we can learn quite a bit from this iconic wanna-be flying ace. A local Louisville, KY vet lists some life lessons from Snoopy below.
Snoopy has experimented with several different careers and personas over the course of his life. While he has always envisioned himself as a renowned fighter pilot, he’s also been a lawyer, a college student, and an astronaut. Don’t be afraid to explore new things!
Did you know that Snoopy has a sweet tooth? The pup is particularly fond of root beer and chocolate cookies. (Note: Although they’re apparently fine for cartoon dogs, neither of these things are safe or suitable for real ones. In fact, chocolate is toxic to our canine companions.) It’s important to eat healthy, but it’s also good to enjoy a treat now and then.
As you may recall, Snoopy has always been interested in literature. The pup has been reading War And Peace at the rate of one word a day. Given that he’s now officially 83 years old, he’s less than a fifth of the way through the 587,000 word tome, but we have faith that he’ll reach the end long before he loses popularity.
In recent years, Snoopy has become a bit of an altruist. He even launched a social media campaign that is devoted to spreading awareness about the importance of caring for yourself, your loved ones, and the Earth. Follow the hashtag #TakeCareWithSnoopy to learn more. Make time for the charities and causes you care about.
Like any friends’ group, the Peanuts gang has been through its share of ups and downs. However, at the end of the day, Snoopy truly cares for and looks out for his friends, particularly his bffs, Charlie Brown and Woodstock. That loyalty may very well be the reason the cute Beagle won our hearts. Snoopy is a wonderful example of the loyalty and devotion our canine companions show us. Be loyal to your buddies!
