March 23rd is National Puppy Day! We’re more than happy to celebrate our youngest canine friends. There are few things that bring more love and joy into our homes than dogs. Of course, no matter how old Fido gets, he’ll always be a puppy at heart. Read on as a Louisville, KY vet offers some tips on celebrating this ‘pawspicious’ occasion with your four-legged friend.
Park
Our canine companions love going to new places. Head out on a one-tank trip, and take Fido to a pretty, pet-friendly park or trail.
Puppy Playdate
Socialization is very important for Fido. If your pooch is still a puppy, invite some friends or family members with polite, well-behaved dogs over. Set out treats and toys for your furry guests, and host a potluck or grill out for the humans.
Treats
This is bound to get your four-legged buddy’s tail going! Don’t just hand over little Fido’s snacks, though. Have him work for them. If your pet hasn’t mastered basic obedience commands, like Sit and Come yet, you have your work cut out for you.
Photo Session
Many people have plenty of candid shots of their furry pals. Why not try and go a step further, and get some that look professional? Experiment with different apps and settings, and share your favorites on social media. Don’t forget to add the hashtag #nationalpuppyday!
New Digs
Consider heading to the pet store and picking up a few new things for your pooch. Fido can always use a new bed. Even if he already has one, it’s good to have choices! Or, if you have a yard, buy or make your canine buddy a doghouse to look cute in when it’s nice out.
Toys
Toys are important for our furry friends, both mental and physically. During Fido’s puppyhood, he’ll likely be very interested in chew toys. Kong toys are a great option. You may find that doggy playtime is one of the bright spots of your day as well.
Quiet Time
At the end of the day, Man’s Best Friend just wants to hang out with his favorite humans. Fido will be perfectly happy to nap at your feet while you’re relaxing. Enjoy some downtime with your furry best friend.
