Keeping Your Cat Entertained

September 1, 2020
Did you know that kitties can suffer from boredom? We know, this may not seem like a huge problem for cats. After all, they do spend a rather ridiculous amount of time sleeping. However, Fluffy does need entertainment and enrichment in order to truly thrive. A vet clinic Louisville, KY offers some tips on keeping your pet amused below.

Toys

First and foremost, make sure that your frisky feline has plenty of fun playthings to bat around. Our furry friends all have their own tastes. Some like catnip toys, while others are unimpressed by them. Experiment with different things, and see what your little buddy likes best.

Playtime

Toys are great, but as far as Fluffy is concerned, the best form of entertainment around is you. When you hold that laser pointer or wand toy for your kitty, you make playtime both more fun and more challenging for her. Try to make this a part of your daily routine. If you like to wind down by watching TV, keep some of her toys in easy reach.

Plants

We strongly advise keeping Fluffy inside. It’s much safer for her! However, that doesn’t mean she can’t enjoy a taste of the great outdoors. Set out some pet-safe plants for your cat to sniff at and nibble on. You can check the ASPCA site here for suggestions.

Window Seat

Give Fluffy a comfy window seat, where she can relax and watch birds and squirrels. Your kitty may spend hours there, spying on local wildlife!

Furniture

Your cat will also enjoy having some things to climb and explore. Cat towers are great, but Fluffy is also fond of things like boxes and paper bags.

Unorthodox Options

Have you ever found your feline pal batting a bottlecap around? Does Fluffy get super excited if a moth gets into the house? Kitties are full of these adorable quirks! Just don’t let your cat play with anything that could be dangerous. Anything small or sharp is unsafe, as are items with dangling threads or cords. It’s probably worth mentioning that cats seem to automatically go for things that aren’t safe, like plastic wrappers. Keep a close eye on Fluffy. Your pet may complain if you take her ‘toy’ away, but it’s for her own good!
