Great Reasons to Play With Your Cat Regularly

July 15, 2020
Cats are always cute, but they somehow manage to be extra adorable when they are feeling playful. It’s hard not to chuckle at some of Fluffy’s silly antics! As it turns out, playing is actually very good for your feline buddy. In this article, a local Louisville, KY vet lists some reasons to go get that laser pointer.

Exercise

We probably don’t have to tell you that our feline friends are collectively very, very tired. (We’re not entirely convinced that Fluffy actually needs to sleep over 14 hours a day, but that’s another topic.) Although your pet’s napping predilection may be cute, it does make it easy for her to gain weight and get out of shape. A fun session of Catch The Red Dot will give your furry pal a great kitty workout.

Entertainment

We know, kitties seem to really enjoy doing as little as possible. However, Fluffy can’t spend all of her time napping. Playing is a great way to break up your furry buddy’s day, and just let her have fun for a while.

Mental Stimulation

A fun play session will also be good for your kitty mentally. Kitties have to really concentrate to land those tricky run/jump/pounce combinations! That focus offers Fluffy mental stimulation, which can help ward off cognitive decay as she ages.

Bonding

Do you have more than one kitty? Dual play sessions may help your pets become friends. This will allow Fluffy and Mittens to take their aggression out on toys, instead of on each other. Plus, they may start to realize that good things happen when they’re together. Kitty playtime is also a great way to strengthen the bond between you and your cat. Fluffy may very well hop into your lap for snuggle time afterwards!

Build Confidence

Did you know that ‘catching’ prey can help a timid kitty feel more confident? Let Fluffy unleash her inner lion sometimes! This will also give your furry friend a healthy outlet for any angst she feels.

It’s Adorable

Last but not least, it’s always fun to watch cats hard at play. Watching your frisky feline pouncing on a catnip mouse or a little ball is bound to put a smile on your face!
